ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In this video, I explore the transference of the mental state into the physical through repetitive processes and tedious tasks. The physical act of each of these processes becomes a meditative action, allowing my brain to quiet and work through ruminating thoughts. Each video becomes a representation of the mental state and whirring mind. As the tedious and repetitive tasks continue, the mind quiets and the video intensifies.
Recording each task and stuttering the progression of it in playback allows a non-linear view of the rumination taking place in the mind. The flashing imagery comes from marks made in one of the processes and, through digital manipulation, acts as a jarring disruptor of its progression. Overlapping the playback of the videos creates a sense of overwhelm and overstimulation, much like my own mind can often reflect.
