In this Information Session, Chairperson Pfunzo Sidogi chats to the 2019 Overall Winner Patrick Rulore, reflecting on his journey since receiving the prestigious award. He shares insights into how the recognition shaped his artistic practice, opened new opportunities, and influenced the evolution of his career. After participating in a multitude of group and solo exhibitions while developing his voice within the contemporary art scene, Rulore offers an inspiring look at the impact of the competition on a growing artist’s trajectory.

How to enter
  • Submit your artwork(s) at one of the collection points across the country on Tuesday, 9 June and Wednesday, 10 June 2026 from 10h00 to 16h00.
  • Collection points are located in Bloemfontein (Oliewenhuis Art Museum), Cape Town (Art B Gallery), Durban (KZNSA Gallery), Johannesburg (Sasol Place), Polokwane (Polokwane Art Museum), Gqeberha (Bird Street Gallery – Nelson Mandela University), Potchefstroom (North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus), and Pretoria (Pretoria Art Museum).
Who can enter
  • Emerging visual artists 18 years or older, who have not yet held a solo exhibition
  • Only South Africa citizens and permanent residents
Who may NOT enter
  • Artists who have held a solo exhibition, except for exhibitions for academic purposes
  • Artists represented by an agent or established art gallery
  • Full-time/permanently employed university lecturers in any art or design disciplines
What type of art can be entered
  • Artworks produced in any medium and process
  • An artist can submit two different artworks
  • The artwork(s) must not exceed the size and weight specifications outlined in the entry form
