Artist’s Statement
Pending delivery uses the language of packaging and shipping to explore delayed promises and the slow delivery of basic services. The artwork transforms a cardboard box into a symbol of public expectation, carrying requests for housing, water, electricity, roads, employment, and dignity.
Inspired by tracking labels, delivery notices, and shipping stamps, the work presents the future as a package that remains permanently in transit. Words such as “Pending,” “Delayed,” “Under Review,” and “Backlogged” reflect the experience of communities that continue to wait for meaningful change.
The cardboard box becomes a metaphor for unfulfilled promises. It is addressed to “The People,” yet its contents never arrive. By using an everyday object associated with movement and delivery, the artwork highlights the gap between commitment and action.
Pending delivery reflects on absence, expectation, and public patience. It asks how long people should wait for what has already been promised and invites viewers to consider the cost of a future that remains undelivered.
