Pathways

Felt

7 Part: 140 cm x 180 cm

Artist’s Statement

Pathways is a collection of art made from felt that explores how people connect with each other. It’s inspired by the paths animals create as they move around, and how these paths can represent the relationships we build with others.

The art pieces show winding paths that cross, meet, and sometimes separate, just like the ups and downs of human relationships. The felt’s texture and colours remind us of nature, and the paths symbolise how our relationships guide us.

The artist attempts to liken this to her own personal relationships and how they have shaped her life journey by using animal fibres such as felt to represent the connectedness between her family and friends.

The art pieces are intricate and layered, showing that relationships can be complicated and imperfect. The felt’s texture invites you to touch, just like how relationships can be delicate but strong.

The artworks show different emotions and experiences in relationships, from loving and close to broken and strained. Felt can be shaped and changed, just like how relationships can shape and change us.

Pathways is about exploring human connections and how they make us who we are. It encourages you to think about how relationships bring us together, but also set us apart.
