Artist’s Statement
This piece captures the entitled behaviour of true isolation. The consumption of others near you. The loss of someone dear to you transforms you and moves you towards a therianthrope.
The Wendigo, the myth that keeps people from eating one another. Now the consumer and the Wendigo, stare into emptiness together. No words or thought are spoken, just the fire burning the darkness away. The myth of the Wendigo becomes a reality, and shows the brutal nature of humans, who take, destroy and devour. It depicts that in true isolation the myth or person you once knew becomes something unspeakable.
Humans rarely want to return what they take. The simple behaviour of giving to others and taking equal, is unthinkable. This repeated abuse of objects or food is seen daily, where consumerism of people becomes their downfall. Consumerism, (taking of more than you need) is the Wendigo himself. This is not to be confused with cannibalism, but the devouring and destroying for once own needs, without any consideration for sustainability.
At the end, you become an unfamiliar person, the therianthrope is your consuming desire to take and never return something of equally value.
