Artist’s Statement

Yes!! Here is the artwork.

It consists of two different media – the sculpture and a painting. The viewer finds the wood sculpture painting on carved wood board. At the same time the painting is carved on the same sculpture.

In simple words I tried to say in Tswana – ‘Are betlaneng defame mebala ee tshwanetseng’ – meaning “lets help each other”.

The artwork was also carved in a way to communicate with the blind community. Making it easy for them to touch and feel the artwork. On the base I engraved braille words saying ‘boys and girls’.

The paint spilled on the easel board … Wood sculpture is carved with rough details indicating ‘pain’ (chisel marks fine details, happiness).
