Artist’s Statement
Suspended between sheets of glass, an anatomy of tiny drawn creatures, symbols, and flowers coalesces into a singular human figure. Illuminated by a glow from beneath, an autopsy of sorts takes place, demanding the question: What symbols, metaphors, and stories do we use to construct our identity?
This work investigates the structures and systems that hold personal meaning. Here, symbols function as vessels, carrying fragmented residues of experience, emotion, and memory. By layering these disparate elements, a cohesive narrative is formed—a deliberate self-mythology.
In The Soul’s Code, James Hillman writes, ‘The myth has a redemptive psychological function, and a psychology derived from it can inspire a life founded on it.’ Through this visual dissection, the artwork exposes the mechanics of how we build who we are, revealing that myth is not merely inherited, but actively constructed to shape how we live.
