Artist’s Statement
Unfolding insecurities is an introspective work examining the shame, low self-esteem, and
depression I experienced growing up in an informal settlement, particularly during high
school.
The act of unfolding becomes a method of healing: a decision to no longer be governed by
fear of judgment about my humble beginnings. While I cannot change my past, I reclaim agency in how I respond to it.
Using shirts as vessels of memory, each piece represents a stage of my life during my school years. As each shirt is unfolded, it traces a transformation — from burning to devotion.
