Preparing your artwork

For the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition, all entries intended for wall hanging must to be ready to hang. This means the artwork must be submitted with the relevant hooks and wires for hanging the works already attached. Submissions not adhering to this criterion may be disqualified.

Preparation of framed works:

  • All works for hanging must be properly framed or stretched on a sturdy stretcher frame.
  • Remember to attach two 14mm eye hooks or a D-ring hook and hanging wire to the back of the work.
  • The following 14mm eye hooks or D-ring hooks can be used:

Preparation of unframed works:

  • Unframed works on paper will not be accepted unless full instructions and all materials are supplied, for example foldback clips and a piece of mounting board at the top and bottom of the work to protect the paper.

  • Do remember that these clips are not suitable for heavy works, and they do tend to leave marks on the paper.  This can be minimised by adding small pieces of cardboard or wood between the clip and the work itself.
  • Bear in mind that the work will be unprotected, and damages to unprotected works cannot be claimed for.
  • Tapestries, quilts, etc. must be supplied with a strong rod or slat sewn to the top and bottom of the work.
  • No Prestik, double sided tape or nails will be allowed.
