Artist’s Statement
The painting depicts the artist’s lived experiences with autism.
A state of being that is defined by a constant influx of overlapping stimuli. Internal sensations and external impressions that collide and merge, flooding both the brain and body.
This is why I often say: I don’t walk through reality, I swim.
The painting is an invitation to see through this lens, where navigating the world is an intense, playful and imaginative act. It suggests that despite the quiet demeanour there is always more than meets the eye. Despite the chaos and the difficulty of traversing a reality shaped by heightened sensitivities, a profound sense of wonder is also to be found in its depths.
