SASOL NEW SIGNATURES 2024

With the submission dates for the Sasol New Signatures Art competition around the corner, we’ve put together a series of Information Sessions led by Dr Pfunzo Sidogi, Chairperson of Sasol New Signatures, and Cate Terblanche, Art Curator for the Sasol Art Collection. In these interviews they cover a variety of topics aimed at answering some of the most frequently asked questions, as well as providing tips and insights into the various aspects of the competition. INFORMATION SESSION 1 | WHATS NEW THIS YEAR?

An overview of changes to the competition rules, submission points and types of art which can be submitted, including the use of AI.

 

INFORMATION SESSION 2 | COPYRIGHT AND THE SASOL NEW SIGNATURES COMPETITION

In the second Sasol New Signatures Information Session for 2024, Dr Pfunzo Sidogi and Cate Terblanche chat to Jenny Pienaar, partner in the Trade Mark Litigation department at Adams & Adams Attorneys about copyright and the visual arts.  The session covers issues relating to the use of images from the internet, copyright infringements and implications, as well as advice to artists on how best to protect the rights to their own artworks.

INFORMATION SESSION 3 | WHY WASN’T MY WORK SELECTED?

In the third Sasol New Signatures Information Session for 2024, Dr Pfunzo Sidogi and Cate Terblanche discuss common reasons why artworks are not selected or disqualified. The session also provides feedback from the previous year’s competition, making it essential viewing for emerging artists wishing to ensure their entries stand the best possible chance of being selected for the Sasol New Signatures art competition.

Information Session 4 | What makes a winning work?

This last Information Session for 2024, Dr Pfunzo Sidogi and Cate Terblanche discuss some of the more recent winning works from the Sasol New Signatures competition and provide insights into what the judges are looking for in a winning work.

With the submission dates for the Sasol New Signatures Art competition around the corner, we’ve put together a series of Information Sessions led by Dr Pfunzo Sidogi, Chairperson of Sasol New Signatures, and Cate Terblanche, Art Curator for the Sasol Art Collection.  In these interviews they cover a variety of topics aimed at answering some of the most frequently asked questions, as well as providing tips and insights into the various aspects of the competition.

In the first Information Session, they discuss the general conditions of the competition, explain how to go about entering the competition, as well as providing insights into who may enter and the types of artworks which may be entered.

In the second Sasol New Signatures Information Session, Dr Pfunzo Sidogi and Cate Terblanche discuss frequently asked questions relating to the Entry Form, including the various restrictions applied to submissions, copyright and the model release form.

In the third Sasol New Signatures Information Session, practical considerations such as presentation, framing and the installation of various types of artworks are discussed. This session includes several practical hints on getting artworks ‘hang ready’.
